Description Set within the rough firth, this picture perfect sandy beach is situated between where the River Urr meets the Solway. Looking out from the shore of this idyllic fishing village, it is possible to see two islands; Heston Island, complete with lighthouse and cottages, and Rough Island.
Depending on the tide, Rough Island is accessible on foot, lying just a third of a mile from Rockcliffe. Precautions must be taken when attempting this walk, making sure that there is time enough to get to the island and back without being caught by the tide and stranded on the island. Between the months of May to June, however, this walk should be avoided to stop the disturbance of nesting birds on the island.
