Our cottage is situated within the Arched House, built in 1791 by Thomas Carlyle's father and uncle and site of his birth four years later. The house is furnished to reflect the domestic style of Carlyle's time and on show is a notable collection of portraits and the writer's belongings. The cottage is full of character and providers very comfortable accommodation.
