Property Description

Welcome to the Downshire Arms Hotel, Portpatrick. Set just a minute's stroll from the bustling harbour of Portpatrick, the hotel makes an ideal base from which to explore this beautiful part of south west Scotland. Stroll along the quayside and watch the boats coming and going. Small fishing craft, pleasure boats, luxury cruisers, diving boats, working boats - you never know what you might glimpse in the bustling harbour. Perhaps you might explore the antiques and craft shops within the village, with gifts to suit all pockets and tastes. Close at hand unwind amidst the splendour of some of Scotland's best kept public gardens. Take a brisk walk along the rugged Galloway coastline to the ancient ruins of Dunskey Castle, or climb the 'Steps of Time' to the cliff-top start of the Southern Upland Way. And then, at the end of the day, enjoy an excellent A La Carte meal in our Restaurant, a drink in our Cocktail bar, or a light snack or full meal in our Lounge Bar. Then join in the craic with the friendly locals in the Lounge Bar. Our close proximity to no less than four golf courses will please the Golfer, whilst Sea Angling, River & Loch Fishing, Walking, Cycling, Shooting and Sailing are well catered for too! The Downshire Arms Hotel is the ideal place for either a short break or a longer stay. There is an array of things to do and see whilst based at the 'Downshire' here in the Port. This former Coaching Inn dates back to C1800 is delightfully situated on the main street. This busy little town offers the traveller the setting for an adventure through scenery that illustrates the best that Scotland has to offer; rugged coastlines, sandy beaches, heather clad hills, remote lighthouses perched on the high cliff tops overlooking panoramas across the hills of Ireland, and not forgetting the tropical gardens with palm trees flourishing in the mild gulf stream climate.
