Tolbooth and several large inns indicate Lauder’s importance in coaching days. Also an unusual Church in the form of a Greek Cross, with a central pulpit and original box pews.
Near Lauder, Thirlestane Castle, a turreted sandstone mansion, has family portraits by Gainsborough and others. The Border Country Life Museum is also close by.
The Southern Upland Way runs through Lauder which is an accommodation location for the route.
