![]() Sanquhar is the site of the World’s oldest Post Office and scene of 17th century Covenantors’ declaration renouncing alliegience first to Charles I, then to James VII. Sanquhar's Tolbooth erected in 1735 at the instigation of Charles Duke of Queensberry and designed by William Adam stands intact to this day and its graceful Palladian facade enhances the town's High Street. The Southern Upland Way runs through Sanquhar which is an accommodation location for the route.
